Coasters And The Art Of Beautiful Homes
The coaster is only a very minor piece of any environment. Designed to fulfill a very specific role, these functional accessories are usually ignored unless they are being directly used, and even then, they tend to fade into the background, with people merely accepting them as part of the space and moving perceptibly on.
However this does not mean that beverage coasters are ineffective as decorative tools. Their ability to easily integrate into and blend in with a room makes them inherently valuable pieces in a decorative setting. Being able to so easily and temporarily become part of the room's décor means that coasters can be used to subtly change and influence the feeling of an entire room. In this way, they are almost stealth decorating accessories.
Another benefit of coasters is their ability to create a web which can stretch across a space. Since they are tiny, numerous, and disparate, coasters tend to be dispersed amongst various people for use. While each piece on its own is fairly innocuous, the result of having several of these items spread throughout an environment can be a net of style or color which you can slip across the space at your discretion.
The fact that coasters are generally inexpensive is another beneficial aspect when it comes to home decorating. You can easily cycle in several sets of coasters for different holidays, events, or even just to keep up with the seasons. It's often even possible to have inexpensive cork or cardboard coasters made up for a limited run, or on special occasions.
The important thing when decorating with coasters is to remember that they have more influence over a space than you might at first suspect. While they are small, they can stretch out, creating a webbing of style which can then blend seamlessly with the environment of the room they are in.
